Motivation and accountability are becoming increasingly scarce

Posted on May 30, 2026

How many of you think the same thing as the title? I have recently dealt with a dentist office, dealt with customer service on the phone and dealing with a co worker and not one of them really works anymore.

The dentist office set up to call me before some dental work I was having done and for 5 days they sent me text messages that I had an appointment on such and such a date and time and then they never called.

I have dealt with the people from an insurance carrier recently and was told they would take care of something and then never did.

And a co worker apparently expects everyone else to check everything on an order that she should be doing instead since she really doesn’t have anything else to do.

So all of these people are getting paid to do a job and then not doing it but still expecting to be paid and their supervisors are allowing it to happen. What I don’t understand is why everyone gets away with this. I get tired of trying to explain to everyone how to do their job and they get the money for it. I should be paid since I’m the one doing the job. Am I right? It frankly scares me that these are the people that we are expecting to run the country, make decisions for us as we get older and take care of everyone. They can’t even do a simple job they are paid to do.

I get the impression that there are some out there that feel just this way. Why should I work if I don’t have to? I’ll just sit here and look like I’m doing something, collect my paycheck and go have fun. They think they are entitled and want to be paid whether they do anything or not. I came from an age where if you weren’t doing your job that you were hired for, you didn’t have a job very long. Where did we go wrong in letting those that came after us believe that you didn’t really have to work?

Don’t get me wrong, there are some really hard working people out there and they are good at what they do but those few percentage of those that think the other way probably need to have it a little rougher to understand and appreciate what it’s like to work for a living and put in a hard days work and take pride in what they do. When I see someone do a good job or have someone help me with something, I try to make sure that someone higher up knows about it and when it goes south, I damn sure let someone know that outcome also.

All I ask is that is you apply for a job, at least make an effort to do the job. If you don’t like the job, then move to something else until you find something you enjoy. And yes, you should enjoy what you do so it’s not a chore to go to work everyday. Take pride in what you do and if you tell somebody you are going to do something, then make sure you do it. Remember, there are people like me out here that will call you out on a job well done and not well done.
